Trades Student Receives Award from Bumper to Bumper

December 01, 2022

A student in the Agricultural & Heavy Technician program at Olds College of Agriculture & Technology recently received a toolbox, valued at $3,000, from Bumper to Bumper in Olds, AB. Marcus Ryan, the recipient of the award, came from Fraser Valley in British Columbia to start his first semester at Olds College. The Bumper to Bumper award is given annually to one first year student of the College’s Agriculture & Heavy Equipment Certificate program and is selected by faculty from the School of Trades & Skills.

“I greatly enjoy the course material as well as the time I spend in the shop using my tools to gain hands-on experience,” says Ryan. “My favourite courses so far are Hydraulic and Electrical Basics, as well as Agricultural Equipment 1.”

Ryan plans on attending Olds College for just over two years  with plans to gain technical training for both agricultural equipment and heavy equipment. As well as being dual ticketed, he would also like to take a welding program to further open job opportunities.

“The toolbox I received from Bumper to Bumper will go with me in my career and give me all the hand tools I will be using on a daily basis,” Ryan adds.

Ryan also received one of the two Red Deer AgriTrade Entrance awards, gaining a generous $1,500 contribution to studies. This award was also selected by the faculty from the School of Trades & Skills.

“The School of Trades and Skills is incredibly lucky and thankful to have the local shop Bumper to Bumper for supporting our students,” says Dennis Beaudoin, Associate Dean of the School of Trades & Skills.
