Olds College Welcomes Dr. Kofi Agblor to the Field Crop Development Centre

Olds College is pleased to announce that Dr. Kofi Agblor will be the new Program Director for the Field Crop Development Centre (FCDC). A world-class research facility, FCDC at Olds College is focused on producing new barley and triticale varieties that produce higher yield, improve disease resistance, and feature superior end quality characteristics. 

“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Agblor to Olds College,” comments Paul Thiel, Thought Leader in Smart Agriculture, Olds College. “Dr. Agblor’s proven leadership and extensive experience directing crop research teams will continue to position the FCDC as a leader in developing enhanced cereal varieties for feed, forage, malt and bio-industrial uses.”

Dr. Agblor brings extensive experience to the role, having held leadership positions with the Crop Development Centre at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Pulse Growers, and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture. He has also provided strategy consultation for the Canadian Wheat Research Coalition. 

“The FCDC could not have found a better home than Olds College, which strives to transform agriculture for a better world.  I am excited to be joining the illustrious team at Olds College, along with the dynamic group at FCDC, as we endeavour to position FCDC as the source of competitive barley and triticale varieties for Alberta and western Canadian producers and their customers,” comments Dr. Kofi Agblor, Program Director, Field Crop Development Centre, Olds College. 

Dr. Agblor will begin in his new role at FCDC on July 4, 2022.  He holds a B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture from the University of Ghana, a certificate in Roots Crop Technology from the International Institute of of Tropical Agriculture in Ibadan, Nigeria, a M.Sc Agricultural Engineering from Silsoe College, Cranfield University in Silsoe, UK, a PhD. in Agricultural (Biosystems) Engineering from the University of Manitoba, and a Masters Certificate in Project Management from York University.
