Barley Trail Wins Bronze at Alberta Beer Awards

The Olds College Brewery took home multiple awards at the 2021 Alberta Beer Awards, winning Silver in the American-Style Wheat Beer category with Hay City, as well as taking Bronze with Barley Trail in the All-Alberta Malt category. Students of the Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program are able to showcase their abilities by entering their beers into this annual competition.barley-trail-wins-bronze.jpeg

In the Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program, second year students brew all of the beer created in the Fall and Winter terms. In their project Beer-to-Market students develop a recipe, brew it on their pilot system with an Assistant Brewer, ferment it in pilot fermenters, name the beer and develop a label for their brew. Students are then encouraged to sell the beer. Brews created in the Beer-to-Market project can be displayed in the Alberta Beer Awards which brings province-wide awareness to Olds College Brewery.

“It's awesome that Olds College Brewery is brewing top-quality beer within the province, but even more amazing and rewarding that we're being outdone by breweries who have graduates from our Program at their helm,” says Jason Popesku, Brewmaster at Olds College Brewery.

The Olds College Brewery has entered the Alberta Beer Awards, since it was founded in 2018 and look forward to submitting more quality brews made by students in the coming years.
